1. What services does Career Services provide to students?
You are welcome to review our services for students and alumni.
We assist students and alumni with their career/major decision-making, job/ internship search and continuing education needs (some restrictions apply). We also house a computer based testing center. Our office is located in 259 Capen Hall on the UB North Campus. Our phone number is (716) 645-2231.
2. When is Career Services open?
Career Services's hours are 8:30 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday. The office remains open during the winter, spring, and summer breaks.
3. Does Career Services work with all students at the University?
Yes! While students in the Law School and the School of Management also have offices that serve their needs directly, services of the Career Services office are available to all students and alumni (some restrictions apply)! Stop by and see us or make an appointment by calling (716) 645-2231.
4. How do I make an appointment with a counselor?
It's easy! Just call (716) 645-2231. To help the counselor prepare for your visit, you may be asked your major, and what assistance you need (e.g., help with making a career decision, a critique of your resume, general job-search assistance, assistance with applying to graduate school etc.).
5. How long are appointments?
Appointments are usually scheduled for either 30 or 60 minutes depending on the type of assistance you need. We also have counselors available for 20 minute same-day Express Career Consult appointments.
6. What is BullsEye?
BullsEye allows you to view opportunities and sign up for interviews with employers who visit UB to talk to students seeking full-time jobs and internships. You can also upload your word-processed resume to be included in our online resume database that we make available to employers seeking candidates for jobs and internships.
This service also has 100's of full-time, part-time (both on and off campus), workstudy, and internship listings for you to review!

7. What is the difference between Job Fairs, Job Vacancy Listings, and On-Campus Interviewing?
Job Fairs are once - a - year events that our office sponsors, bringing employers to campus generally for one day, to informally meet with you and tell you about their job and internship openings as well as their organizations. You would bring your resume to share with the employer, and talk to them about your strengths and abilities. We sponsor quite a few fairs each year including a Technical, an All Majors, a Teacher Recruitment, a Summer Jobs/Internship Fair and others. To see a list of upcoming fairs, click here.
On-Campus Interviewing is a service where employers come to campus to formally interview students in the Career Services office in the fall and spring semesters, staying usually one day. You can view which employers are coming to campus to interview and see their job/internship positions on our website (BullsEye). Employers generally pre-screen resumes, which means you must follow the On-Campus Interviewing Schedule to be sure you submit your resume online by the weekly deadline dates. The employer then selects who they wish to interview, our office contacts you by email if you are selected, and then you sign up for an interview time. Interviews are generally 1/2 hour each, and usually take place in our office in 259 Capen Hall. Read more about how to participate in On-Campus Interviewing.

8. Should I skip class for an interview?
No, Career Services does not support students missing classes for interviews. BullsEye allows you to arrange your own interview time, allowing you to schedule an appointment at your convenience. But it is first come, first served, so visit the site often!
9. What should I do if I'm interested in an internship?
Set up an appointment with a counselor. Our counselors can help get you started on your search and provide you with resources and various reference materials available.
10. Do you have information on the GRE, LSAT, TOEFL, CLEP etc.?

11. How do I sign up for a practice interview?
Just call or stop by Career Services to make an appointment. We ask that you dress professionally and bring a copy of your resume to the interview. We will videotape your interview and review it with you.
12. Where can I take an interest assessment to help me make a career/major decision?
Information about vocational self-assessments (Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, MyPlan, and StrengthsQuest™) is available online. Just call, email or visit our office and make arrangements
13. Do I need to sign up for workshops in advance?

14. Will a Career Services representative speak to my organization or club?
Yes, a Career Services staff member can visit your group's meeting to go over services or a related topic of your choice. Call (716) 645-2231, submit an online request or stop by the office to complete a speaker request form to make arrangements. Advance notice is appreciated.
