A Safety Message from VP of Student Affairs

Instant Message (IM) a Career Counselor

Do you need quick advice from a career counselor? Do you live off-campus, in the residence halls, or have difficulty getting to campus? Are you familiar with instant messaging (IM)?

Facts

The "IM the Career Counselor" program at Career Services is a great way to connect to career counselors right from the comfort and convenience of home, office, or favorite place to work off-site. The program is designed to help UB students ask questions and get answers fast. UB career counselors will assist you with any of your immediate concerns regarding the job search and interviewing skills, using our Online Career Office, upcoming events, and a variety of other services the office provides. "IM the Career Counselor" is free and accessible to all UB students throughout the spring and fall semesters.

Access

There are two (2) ways to access this service:

  • Option #1, Meebo: You can access this service from this page, using the Meebo box below.
  • Option #2, AOL/Yahoo/MSN: You can access this service from any computer using AOL, Yahoo, or MSN instant messaging services. The Career Services screen name is ubcareeradvice.

The program is available on Monday thru Friday from 1 pm until 5 pm throughout the spring and fall semesters. This service is accessible from the library, computer labs, and most dial-up network services off-campus.

Getting Started

Option #1, Meebo: You do not need an account to use this service. Just verify that the box states, "UB Career Counselor is online", then type your question. The Career Counselor will respond. Be sure to keep your browser open for the duration of your chat session.

Option #2, AOL/Yahoo/MSN: If you do not already have an account with any of these three hosts (AOL, Yahoo, or MSN), a new account can be created at any time. Simply log on to one of these three ports (AOL instant messenger is the most common), create a user account, and activate the account.

Help

If you are having difficulty accessing or using this service, please email Career Services for more information.
