Candidates Must Ask Questions, Too

By asking pertinent questions you show your interviewer that you understand fundamental issues related to teaching and your interest in the district. You can also gain information to determine if this job is the right fit for you.
Have several questions in mind before you arrive for your interview. The following dozen should give you a good start.
1. Do you encourage teachers to earn graduate degrees? Is compensation available?
2. What types of school activities promote parent-teacher-student interaction?
3. How do teachers participate in curriculum review and change?
4. What types of staff development programs and conferences have the teachers attended in the last year?
5. How does the teaching staff feel about new teachers?
6. How do parents support the schools?
7. Do your schools use teacher aides or parent volunteers?
8. How do staff members work collaboratively to solve problems and respond to the needs of students?
9. Does the district encourage field trips for students?
10. How are teachers assigned to extracurricular activities?
11. What do your teachers do during the summer?
12. How is the district incorporating the Internet into instruction?
