- The Meet-a-Mentor program can bring you together with professionals in a variety of career fields who have volunteered to help you.
- Research employing organizations to identify vacancies and employers who could benefit from your education and training.
- Employer Websites - these employers requested to be linked to the UB Career Services site to attract UB candidates.
- Research employers before applying in order to demonstrate to the employer that you can best meet their needs.
- Target your resume and cover letter to each employer and vacancy. Have your resume, cover letter and portfolio reviewed again by a career counselor.
- Prepare yourself for the interview. This includes researching the employer and position, dressing appropriately, being familiar with different types of interviews, knowing what questions to ask and what will be asked of you, practice interviewing and more. Being prepared for the interview is a must for impressing the employer.
- Follow up after each step of the application process. This includes contacting employers after you apply, sending thank you letters after the interview or job fair, and keeping in touch with mentors or those with whom you networked.
- Learn how to negotiate a job offer, including salary, benefits such as vacation, medical/dental insurance, retirement plans or perks.
